In reply to your letter of 16th. Novem-
-ber on the subject of granting licences to certain Steamship Companies to signal by wireless telegraphy while in Hongkong waters, I have the honour to inform your Excellency that cases of interference with Naval signalling have occurred and that the Commander-in-Chief considers it desirable, when renewing per- -mission to the Companies concerned, only to grant permission to them to use wireless telegraphy between the hours of 6 and 8 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., and that even during those hours they should at once cease signalling within the territorial waters if asked to do so by one of His Majesty's Ships.
